Taylor outpoints Ouma

Jermain Taylor & Kassim Ouma battle during their December 9th title fight in Little Rock.

Jermain Taylor retained his middleweight title belts as he won a unanimous decision against Kassim Ouma Saturday night at the Alltel Arena. Taylor (26-0-1, 17 KOs) came out in the first round throwing wild haymakers trying to fulfill his promise of a knockout.

Ouma (25-3-1, 15 KOs) absorbed the early punishment and kept coming forward. An accidental headbutt in the fifth round produced a deep cut above Taylor’s left eye. Although bothered by the injury, he continued to fight and show his warrior spirit. An open scoring system was used for the match, with the scores being announced after the fourth and eighth rounds. The judges scored the bout 118-110, 117-111, and 115-113 all for Taylor. Taylor will likely make the move up to super middleweight sometime in the future to face champion Joe Calzaghe.
