Jermain Taylor retained his middleweight title belts as he won a unanimous decision against Kassim Ouma Saturday night at the Alltel Arena. Taylor (26-0-1, 17 KOs) came out in the first round throwing wild haymakers trying to fulfill his promise of a knockout.

WBC heavyweight titleholder Oleg Maskaev successfully defended his crown against Peter Okhello. In the first ever heavyweight title fight in Russia, Maskaev won a clear unanimous decision.

Middleweight contender Edison Miranda stopped Willie Gibbs in the first round Saturday night. Gibbs was caught late in the round by a powerful right hand that wobbled him into a corner.
Miranda (27-1, 24 KOs) pounced on him and finished a flurry with another right that sent his opponent to the floor. Gibbs (20-2, 16 KOs) was unable to beat the count, forcing Tommy Kimmons to stop it with eight seconds left in the round.

Vitali Klitschko has announced his long awaited return to boxing. He plans to fight current WBC heavyweight champ Oleg Maskaev, but Samuel Peter stands in the way. Peter fought and beat James Toney twice in WBC mandated eliminators and now looks to fight Maskaev himself for the title.
Klitschko (35-2, 34 KOs) retired in November 2005 because of injuries and his political ambitions. When he retired, the WBC named him ‘Champion Emeritus’ and promised him an immediate shot at the title if he ever came out of retirement.
